I want to encourage all of you who are registering for TLA to come to
the TBA Author Award ceremony on Friday of conference. If you have never
been to this you have missed out on a wonderful experience. The students
presenting the award and giving speeches are always a highlight. They
almost take the spotlight from the winning author/illustrators. It's too
close to call. If you have attended then, you already know all that I
just stated.
The students' attendance is helped by the Texas Bluebonnet Award
Endowment Fund. This fund pays the hotel for the students and their
parents, as well as their airfare or gas expenses. Texas is such a big
state that many of our students could not attend without this fund. TBA
has two ways of adding monies to this fund.
One way of support this fund is to purchase the TBA Endowment Fund item
at the TLA store. Each year this item is different. This year we will
have a zipper pull. See more about this by reading the newsletter at
http://www.txla.org/groups/tba/index.htm.
The second method of adding to this fund is the drawing held at the
luncheon each year. While attendees are lining up for the luncheon and
during the luncheon tickets for the drawing will be sold for $5.00 each.
At the end of the luncheon a name will be drawn from tickets purchased.
In the past the name on the ticket that is drawn has received an
autographed set of the new ML books. This year it is the 2010-2011 list.
This will still be done. However....
This year two names will be drawn. The first will win the set of books.
The second will receive a quilt that is being quilting by ladies who
work for Bound to Stay Bound Books. As you know Bound to Stay Bound is
the sponsor of the TBA Luncheon. This quilt can be used by both
Bluebonnet and 2x2 participants. Milton Van Dusen, one of the BTSB
Texas representatives intends to send me a photo when it is complete, so
watch for that. Be sure and thank Milton Van Dusen (mvandusen at btsb.com),
Bill Tobin (btobin at btsb.com), and Greg Kaiser (gkaiser at btsb.com) at
conference. Now you have a lot of reasons to attend the
luncheon--wonderful children, enticing authors, and a chance to win two
fantastic prizes. See you there.
Beth
